2004 - Sewage Treatment Plant

The client was a municipality working to prove the engineering firm that designed the sewage treatment plant was at fault for providing inadequate recommendations for materials used in construction of the plant for the realistic conditions the plant would experience.

The PVC cubes intended to act as filter media to channel waste material through the plant were not suitable material for the temperatures and pressure the plant would experience. The result was melting and compression of the PVC cubes which halted the appropriate channeling of waste material and causing the plant to back up resulting in groundwater contamination.

The first animation depicted various heat and pressure variables that we placed the same PVC cubes under to prove the media recommended was not a practical or feasible media for typical conditions of the plant.

The second animation demonstrates the actual media compression and sinking in the plant as well as photographs of the actual results of the faulty media.
